OUR HISTORY

BMA began in late 2006 as the “Brownfield Management Alliance” (also called “BMA”), which was a consortium of firms and companies that worked together to achieve the same mission as the current BMA – that is, helping organizations protectively recover value from their surplus and other non-performing real estate assets.

The Alliance was not a legal entity, but rather a “strategic alliance” of organizations (a large international law firm, a large insurance broker and risk mitigation company, a large business consulting company and several smaller specialty service/advisory companies) who all had capabilities and/or expertise related to helping organizations identify and execute the full range of VR (value recovery) and RM (risk mitigation) strategies.

Recognizing the efficiencies and other benefits to clients from creating a stand-alone company, we created and launched Brownfield Management Associates, LLC in May 2009 with essentially the same core service platform as the Alliance – Real Estate, Environmental, Risk Mitigation and Information Technology.

Although the Alliance included a law firm, the vast majority of the VR and RM strategy work is consulting in nature, not legal services. Accordingly, BMA shifted to a pure consulting (more cost-effective) platform, which can team with attorneys, as necessary, to execute certain VR and RM strategies. The current BMA team includes two senior attorneys who bring deep knowledge and experience regarding a broad spectrum of environmental and transactional issues, including working for many years (35+ combined) counseling large national and multinational corporations on brownfield sites throughout the US and various international locations. Legal services can be provided, as needed, through an affiliated law firm or by another firm selected by the client.
